How to Register — U.S. High School Students
U.S. high school students can earn college credit by taking courses at the University of Washington during Summer Sessions. To be eligible, you must have completed eighth grade or its equivalent by June 30, 2026.
To register for Summer Sessions as a high school student at the Seattle campus, follow the steps below. But if you're a graduating high school senior this year or an incoming UW first-year student, follow the registration steps for non-UW students.
For details on how to register for Summer Sessions at other UW campuses, visit the UW Tacoma Nonmatriculated Students page or the UW Bothell Nonmatriculated Students page.
Step One: Find Your Class
Summer Sessions has more than 1,000 courses to choose from. For help finding the course or courses that are right for you, see the Courses & Programs page.
The UW offers two different views of the quarterly schedule of classes that show details such as when and where a course is offered.
- Before you apply, you can use the public access version known as the Course Offerings View.
- After you’ve applied and have a UW NetID, you can use the Time Schedule View.
Step Two: Apply to Summer Sessions
- Apply online using the Summer Sessions application.
- Submit the $80 nonrefundable application fee.
- If you won’t be 18 years of age on the first day of Summer Sessions (June 22, 2026), you and your parent or guardian must sign an Under 18 Notice and Acknowledgment. After you submit your Summer Sessions application, you’ll receive two emails — one with a form for you to sign and the other with a form for your parent or guardian to sign. We need both forms signed to process your application.
Once your application has been processed, Registration Services will email you an enrollment confirmation acknowledgment letter and registration instructions. The letter will tell you how to set up a UW NetID, which is your personal identification for using UW online resources. You'll need a UW NetID to register.
Step Three: Register
- Know when you can register. About two weeks before registration opens, you can find your specific registration date and time on Register.UW. You can also refer to Key Dates & Deadlines.
- Complete pre-registration. Review legal acknowledgments, choose optional charges and confirm your contact information before you can register.
- Once registration opens, use Register.UW to register online for your Summer Sessions courses. Have the Schedule Line Number (SLN) or course abbreviation and number handy from the Time Schedule.
- If you used MyPlan to plan your courses, find out how to import them into Register.UW.
- Be sure to register early — registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
